SIXTH FORM NEWSStudent Leadership Conference 2026 Shanghai
Eight of our Sixth Form Student Leaders to the EiM Student Leadership Conference in Shanghai.
"Over four inspiring days, our students worked alongside peers from across the global EiM network, exploring leadership as empathy, responsibility and action rather than title.
They represented Sherfield School with confidence, humility and curiosity, engaging fully in student-led workshops, discussions and community engagement activities. Our students returned inspired, reflective and ready to continue leading with purpose, and I could not be prouder of how they embraced this opportunity."
Head of Sixth Form, Alasdair Robertson

Alana, Head Girl
"Over the course of EiM's leadership conference, I gained a much clearer understanding of what effective leadership looks like in real situations, not just in theory. During many engaging activities, I had opportunities to socialise with students from different schools, helping to improve my communication and ability to work with people I don't already know and encouraging me to reflect on my own leadership styles. My main takeaway is that in many cases, being a good leader doesn't always mean taking charge, but putting the needs of the majority first and making honest and consistent decisions."
Aaryan, Head Boy
"Being part of the EiM leadership conference in Shanghai was an experience I will never forget. Beyond the tasks and activities during the day, one of the best parts was socialising with students from the different EiM schools from around the globe, trying to learn the language as best as I can and hearing perspectives I wouldn’t normally be exposed to.
The conference pushed me to think more practically about leadership - especially around planning successful events such as RAG week, working effectively as a team, and learning new communication skills. It showed me that good leadership isn’t just about confidence, but about cooperation, creativity, and trusting others to play their part. An experience I’ll definitely take forward."
Polly, Deputy Head Girl
"Attending the EiM senior leadership conference in Shanghai was an unforgettable experience that helped me see leadership in action, not just as an idea. Through practical activities and group discussions, I strengthened my communication, teamwork, and adaptability, especially when collaborating with students from EiM schools around the world. One of the highlights was building new connections and hearing perspectives I wouldn’t usually be exposed to, which pushed me to reflect on my own leadership style. My biggest takeaway is that strong leadership isn’t always about taking charge; it’s about listening, working cooperatively, and making honest, consistent decisions that put the needs of others first, even in unfamiliar situations."
Rowan, Deputy Head Boy
"Attending the EIM Leadership conference in Shanghai was an unforgettable experience, that went far beyond the leadership sessions alone. Through the engaging group discussions and practical activities, I was able to further develop my skills in teamwork, communication and adaptability. Over the course of the week, I met many amazing new people from all corners of the world; Switzerland, Singapore, New Zealand, and many more. Outside of the conference itself, exploring Shanghai was an adventure in its own right (especially trying to navigate such a vast city with very minimal Mandarin). From pointing at menus hoping for the best, to relying heavily on hand gestures and Google translate, even the most simple tasks became an adventure, adding to the memorability of the week."
