WELLBEING INThe Sixth Form

A Place Where Students Feel Seen, Supported and Secure.

Wellbeing is not a bolt-on at Sherfield, it’s the foundation of everything we do. Students thrive in a warm, family-like community where every individual is genuinely known. With our comphrensive support team we ensure no student ever slips through the cracks.

Balancing academic pressures with personal development and future planning can be challenging. Students who are confident, settled and comfortable in their environment are far more likely to be successful. That’s why we have a dedicated wellbeing programme designed to support our Sixth Form students through this important stage, ensuring they thrive both academically and personally.

Small form groups and teaching groups mean that student-staff relationships are outstanding, whilst there is a raft of pastoral and academic staff on hand when students need an extra helping hand.

Our support team includes:
  • On-site School Counsellor
  • School Nurses
  • Academic Tutors (including our termly 1-1 check-in appointments for all Sixth Formers)
  • Peer Mentors
  • Outstanding Form Tutors
At Sherfield:
  • Students are known personally by teachers and leaders

  • Support is proactive, not reactive

  • Boarding provides stability and structure during crucial exam years

  • The community is inclusive, protective and genuinely uplifting

Parents consistently praise the transformation they see in their children, more confidence and stronger motivation.

 Key Wellbeing Initiatives

Personal Development and PSHE
Our Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) curriculum in the Sixth Form focuses on advanced topics such as stress management, mental health, financial literacy, and preparation for university or career paths. Through interactive sessions, students build essential life skills and resilience. The curriculum is supplemented by a range of guest speakers and experts who come in to support the delivery of some topics.
Counselling and Mental Health Support
Recognising the unique pressures of Sixth Form, we offer confidential counselling services to help students navigate any personal or academic challenges. Our trained counsellors provide a safe and supportive space for students to discuss their concerns and develop coping strategies.
Mentoring and Peer Support
We encourage a strong sense of community and peer support within the Sixth Form. Students have access to mentoring programmes where they can receive guidance from staff and alumni, helping them make informed decisions about their futures.
Physical Health and Wellbeing
Maintaining physical health is crucial during the Sixth Form years. All Sixth Formers have the opportunity to participate in weekly sports or exercise, whether that be competitive football or netball, Yoga or a gym session in the fitness centre. As such, Games is timetabled for a full afternoon every week. Regular physical activity is encouraged to help manage stress and enhance overall wellbeing.
Workshops and Seminars
Throughout the year, we organise workshops and seminars on various topics such as mindfulness, time management, and effective study techniques. These sessions equip students with practical tools to handle the demands of Sixth Form life.
Partnership with Parents
We believe that a strong partnership with parents is vital to student wellbeing. We maintain open communication with parents through regular updates, meetings, and workshops, ensuring they are well-informed and able to support their child’s wellbeing and academic progress.
